What Should I Bring to My First Appointment?

To help us make your first visit as smooth and efficient as possible, please bring the following items:

  • Completed new patient forms (or arrive 10–15 minutes early to complete them in our office)
  • Your dental insurance card, if you plan to use insurance benefits
  • A valid photo ID
  • Any recent dental X-rays, treatment records, or referral information from a previous dentist (if available)

If you’ve recently seen another dental provider, we recommend requesting that your records be sent to our office before your appointment. Having access to your dental history allows us to better understand your needs and provide more personalized care. We also encourage you to bring a list of any questions, concerns, or treatment goals you’d like to discuss.

What Should I Expect During My First Dental Visit?

Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know you, understand your oral health needs, and establish a personalized plan for your dental care.

Most routine appointments last between 30 minutes and one hour, although a new patient visit may take a little longer.

During your first visit, we may:

  • Review your medical and dental history
  • Discuss any concerns, symptoms, or treatment goals you have
  • Perform a comprehensive examination of your teeth, gums, bite, and oral tissues
  • Take digital X-rays, if needed
  • Capture photographs of your smile for diagnostic and treatment-planning purposes
  • Evaluate your overall oral health and identify any areas of concern
  • Review our findings and discuss recommended treatment options, if necessary

If time permits and no additional treatment is needed, your appointment may also include a professional dental cleaning.

We want every patient to feel comfortable, informed, and confident about their dental care. Your appointment time is dedicated to you, so please feel free to ask questions and discuss any concerns you may have. If you have questions before your appointment, don’t hesitate to contact our office. We’re always happy to help.

My child is apprehensive about their first appointment, what can I do?

It’s perfectly normal for kids to be a little wary of visiting the dentist, especially if it’s a new office or doctor that they’re seeing. We always recommend that parents speak about dentistry in a positive light and provide dental-related books or toys for their kids to make dental care more of a familiar topic. If you think your child would benefit from taking a quick tour of our office prior to their first appointment, one of our friendly team members would be happy to show them around and answer any questions they may have.
